A mania called Vijay Deverakonda!

Speaking at the pre-release function of ‘Arjun Reddy’, Vijay Deverakonda sounded like a self-confident, highly optimistic rockstar. He knew the film was already a hit. Days later, when the cult love story released, youngsters thronging the theatres to catch FDFS (First Day First Show) were palpably excited. They came with the assumption that Deverakonda won’t disappoint. And they were not wrong. When and how exactly Vijay Deverakonda started attracting youngsters in a huge way is debatable.

Was it ‘Pelli Choopulu’ or was it the fabulous Trailer of ‘Arjun Reddy’ that ticked for him? You can have it both ways. But what is certain is that the Man Has Arrived. Call it by whatever name you want, in a recent tweet, Deverakonda called it “mania”. Mania for himself!

A blockbuster like ‘RX 100’ took weeks to collect a share of Rs. 10 Cr. And ‘Geetha Govindam’ amassed Rs. 9.65 Cr on its very first day. It took just two days to collect a mind-blowing gross of Rs. 25 Cr. In the US market, he is turning out to be one of the few reliable stars out there. Three times in a row, his films are crossing USD 1 million and ‘Geetha Govindam’ is all set to cross $ 2 million.

For those girls who have been waiting for their own Tollywood rockstar, Deverakonda has come as the answer. He is a veritable dream boy of sorts. His style statements, his sense of fashion, his devil-may-care attitude are winning the hearts of girls. Recently, a few young girls from non-Telugu states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka were seen gushing about his sexiness on Twitter!

Deverakonda is the guy-next-door who is making it big in a Tollywood where star kids rule the roost. “I have always fought for survival, for earning respect. I will tide over this crisis too,” the actor recently said when video clippings of ‘Geetha Govindam’ got leaked. This language is finding resonance with those who have respected a Ravi Teja, a Nani for becoming stars despite having no Godfathers. In Deverakonda you trust, ‘Dear Comrade’!
