Director Nag Ashwin has responded to criticism over the portrayal of Karna in “Kalki 2898 AD”, asserting that he has the utmost respect for Indian history and mythology and knows exactly what he is doing.
The filmmaker was reacting to a social media comment in which a netizen claimed that director Murali Kishor Abburu portrayed the Karna-inspired character in “Lenin” better, while calling the climax of “Kalki” a “blasphemy” against Hindu beliefs.
Replying to the criticism, Nag Ashwin urged people to read the Mahabharata before passing judgment. He shared a snapshot from Bibek Debroy’s translation of the epic, highlighting a passage in which Lord Krishna praises Karna.
“These are Sree Krishna’s own words to Arjuna in the Drona Vadha Parva… Please read the Mahabharata. I suggest the Bibek Debroy version. Or Google how many times Krishna praised Karna to Arjuna. I have the greatest respect for our history. I know what I’m doing. Wait for Part 2,” Nag Ashwin wrote.
Meanwhile, “Kalki 2”, starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone, is currently under production, with the makers expected to unveil more details in the coming months.
