Allari Naresh has been striving to score a hit as a solo lead in his new serious-actor avatar, but the results have been disappointing. His latest release, “12A Railway Colony,” turned out to be a complete washout, failing to draw even 10% occupancy on its opening day in most theatres.
The film has once again underlined that Naresh no longer commands theatrical pull as a lead actor.
This failure adds to his recent string of flops, including Itlu Maredumilli Prajaneekam, Ugram, Aa Okkati Adakku, and Bachhala Malli. Once a king of comedy entertainers, Naresh’s stint with humorous films faded years ago, and his shift toward serious cinema as a solo lead is also not working.
However, he did earn praise for his supporting roles in films like Maharshi and Naa Saami Ranga, and he scored a rare solo success with Naandhi.
With his career once again in doldrums, Naresh may need to reinvent himself for the current market.
