Putting an end to ongoing speculation, ace director SS Rajamouli has confirmed that his much-awaited magnum opus “Varanasi” will be released as a single-part film. The filmmaker clarified this during his recent interactions with international media.
The title glimpse of “Varanasi” was unveiled at a special event held in Hyderabad in November 2025. Several American film journalists were invited for the launch, and exclusive interviews were recorded with Rajamouli after the event. With the embargo on these interviews now lifted, fresh details about the film have emerged.
During one of the conversations, Rajamouli was asked about the film’s runtime and whether the story demanded a two-part format. He revealed that the team did briefly consider splitting the project into two films but decided against it. “It will be a single film,” Rajamouli stated, firmly putting an end to the rumors.
The director also disclosed that “Varanasi” will have a runtime of approximately three hours to three hours and fifteen minutes. Known for his gripping storytelling, Rajamouli expressed confidence in sustaining audience engagement throughout the extended duration.
“Varanasi” stars Mahesh Babu in a powerful dual role as Rudra, a man from the present era, and Lord Rama. Priyanka Chopra plays Mandakini, while Prithviraj Sukumaran will be seen as Kumbha, a wheelchair-bound antagonist with a strong narrative arc. The film’s shooting is currently in progress.
