Veteran actor Rajendra Prasad has offered an apology for his controversial remarks about legendary Tamil actor and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. G. Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR.
On Friday, Rajendra Prasad released a video message in Tamil expressing regret over his comments about the iconic actor and leader. In the video, he directly addressed the Tamil public in their language and conveyed his heartfelt apology.
Rajendra Prasad recently landed in controversy after making certain remarks about MGR while praising Telugu cinema’s legendary actor Kantha Rao. During his speech, he claimed that MGR used to feel intimidated by Kantha Rao’s charisma and his ease in portraying folklore roles. However, the choice of words he used, which bordered on the obscene, drew sharp criticism from many quarters.
Several critics pointed out that praising Kantha Rao did not require making disrespectful remarks about another legendary actor like MGR.
This is not the first time Rajendra Prasad has faced backlash for his comments on public platforms. Interestingly, the Government of India recently honored him with the prestigious Padma Shri. Despite receiving such recognition, critics say he continues to make controversial statements during public events.
