Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Coolie has surprisingly received an Adults Only (‘A’) certificate from the censor board. Typically, Rajinikanth’s films cater to a wide audience, including all age groups. However, due to the film’s intense and graphic violence, the board has restricted its viewing to audiences above 15 years of age.
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for his gritty and violent storytelling, has stayed true to his signature style. Despite having a mass superstar like Rajinikanth in the lead, Lokesh did not tone down the content for a broader certification.
The censor board granted the ‘A’ certificate at the director’s request, as he was clear about not altering or trimming any scenes just to obtain a UA or U rating.
The trailer of “Coolie” is set to release on August 2, while the film will hit theaters on August 14. The film also stars Nagarjuna Akkineni in a key role.
