Superstar Rajinikanth’s “Jailer 2,” directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is nearing the final stages of production. With the first Jailer emerging as a massive blockbuster, expectations for the sequel are sky-high.
Given Rajinikanth’s strong market in the Telugu states, the makers are looking to secure a premium price for the Telugu theatrical rights. Industry buzz suggests that Sun Pictures is seeking around Rs 60 crore for the Telugu version.
However, the deal is yet to be finalized. Telugu distributors are reportedly asking the producers to reduce the asking price, arguing that the current market conditions do not justify such a high valuation.
Trade circles believe that despite the strong buzz surrounding “Jailer 2,” the pricing has become a major hurdle. The performance of Rajinikanth’s recent film “Coolie” has also made buyers more cautious about investing heavily.
As of now, Sun Pictures continues to hold the rights for all versions of the film, with no Telugu distribution deal closed. “Jailer 2” is scheduled to hit theaters on October 15.
