Shaakuntalam gets permission at Gandipet lake

Gandipet lake, also known as Osman Sagar, is one of the two reservoirs built by Nizam kings to provide drinking water to Hyderabad city and protect the city from flooding. Once a popular tourist spot, the lake was encroached by land grabbers. To protect the reservoir, the government had imposed many restrictions and also barred movie shootings.

For the first time in six years, permission was granted for a film shooting. We are talking about ‘Shaakuntalam’ that features Samantha as the main lead.

Director Gunasekhar will film some sequences in and around Gandipet lake. The government has permitted it as it is a special film that deals with our culture – Mahabharat.

So far, the film has been progressing at specially erected sets in Annapurna Studios. Now, Gunasekhar is filming in outdoor locations.

Samantha plays the role of Shakuntala. The movie is based on Kalidasa’s epic text ‘Abhijnanashakuntalam.’ Dil Raju is presenting the movie.
