Two Hindi films — Dhadak 2 and Son of Sardaar 2 — were released this weekend. One stars Tripti Dimri of Animal fame, and the other features Mrunal Thakur.
Despite “Son of Sardaar 2” being a major release, backed by Ajay Devgn and a sequel to a hit film, it has failed to post strong numbers. In the first two days, the film collected a mere Rs 14 crore in India. This was seen as a test of Mrunal Thakur’s popularity in Bollywood.
On the other hand, Tripti Dimri has witnessed a surge in popularity following the success of Animal. Many expected her presence alone would ensure a solid opening for “Dhadak 2”, especially since it belongs to the successful Dhadak franchise. Still, the film failed to register strong openings, collecting only Rs 6 crore over two days.
It appears both Tripti Dimri and Mrunal Thakur are heading toward box office disappointments with their latest releases.
