Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Vakeel Saab’ hit the screens worldwide yesterday. A day before the film’s release, the Andhra Pradesh government issued a G.O (government order) restricting ticket prices on single screens and multiplexes, kicking off a huge political controversy.
It was a clear witch-hunt by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government to create troubles for his political opponent Pawan Kalyan’s movie. The exhibitors have approached court which allowed the status quo of the prices that were in place before the GO came.
However, the government is said to be creating further hurdles and is not allowing the exhibitors to sell the tickets beyond the prescribed Rs 100 to 150 rates. It is a normal practice in Andhra Pradesh to hike rates for all the biggies as the buyers snap rights for high prices and fans shell out money to watch their favorite star’s movie in the first weekend. The rates will come down after the first weekend.
But Andhra Pradesh government has brought this G.O just to restrict Pawan Kalyan’s movie’s collections. Moreover, some of the leaders of YSRCP have also started trending hashtags on social media against the film.
In Andhra Pradesh, cinema and politics are entwined.
