Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay turned 52 today, marking his first birthday after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Birthday wishes poured in from across the political spectrum. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished him a long and healthy life, while Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi pledged support for initiatives aimed at protecting Tamil rights and advancing the state’s development. Former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin also extended his greetings.
The celebrations come just six weeks after Vijay led his party, TVK, to victory in the April 23 elections and assumed office as Chief Minister. The widespread tributes reflected his growing popularity and appeal across political and social circles.
Vijay joins a select list of South Indian actors who successfully transitioned into politics and went on to become chief ministers, following the footsteps of M.G. Ramachandran, N.T. Rama Rao, and J. Jayalalithaa.
Meanwhile, there is still no clarity regarding the release of his final film, “Jana Nayagan”. The project has been entangled in legal issues since January this year. While fans had hoped that the hurdles would be cleared quickly after Vijay assumed office and that the film would hit theaters by June, the makers are yet to announce a release plan.
