Vijay Sethupathi has firmly established himself in the big league. No longer confined to supporting or mid-range lead roles, the versatile Tamil actor has earned pan-Indian recognition and is now juggling projects across Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil cinema.
He will soon be seen as the lead hero in the Telugu film “The Slumdog”, directed by Puri Jagannadh. The film is currently in its final phase of production. At the same time, he has signed Mani Ratnam’s next project, which features Sai Pallavi as the female lead.
Interestingly, Vijay Sethupathi had earlier appeared in Mani Ratnam’s “Nawab” (“Chekka Chivantha Vaanam” in Tamil) in a multi-starrer setup. Now, he has graduated to headline the veteran filmmaker’s new venture. He is also playing the main lead in director Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s Tamil film “Pocket Novel”.
With such high-profile projects, many wonder whether he will stop accepting supporting or character roles.
Putting the speculation to rest, Vijay Sethupathi clarified in a recent interview:
“I will never do such a thing. I began my career asking for minor roles and was content getting any movie. My hunger for good roles will always remain — be it minor, supporting, negative, or lead. I take all roles as long as they excite me.”
