What’s it about?
The story begins when Loknath (Avasarala), who has been studying the ghosts, comes to Annamma (Eeswari Rao), who is an exorcist, to seek some answers to his doubts. Annamma then tells him the challenging case she had handled some years ago. The story moves to the 1990s.
Antony (Sriram), a rice mill accountant, chooses to relocate his family to a house near his workplace. His family includes his pregnant wife Mary (Kushee Ravi) and their daughters – Sophie, Tara, and Antony’s mother. A series of strange happenings occur in their home, prompting them to seek the assistance of exorcist Annamma (Eswari Rao).
What horrific facts do Annamma and her family discover? Why have the ghosts chosen their family?
Analysis
The horror thriller “Pindam” includes an undertone theme of female foeticide. To some extent, new filmmaker Saikiran Daida gets it right, employing all of the genre’s key tropes. Without a doubt, the film succeeds to shock us in a many situation, thanks to superb sound design and background terror. However, the film’s thrill factor is inconsistent.
Why the spirits haunt the house is a vital and important component of the film. There is a history, and it was disclosed in the most gruesome way possible. This narrative appears to be based on a true incident that occurred in Telangana some time ago.
The director attempts to convey a message about female foeticide through this horror drama, which is admirable. However, the narration could have been more engaging and gripping.
The primary issue with this film is that it has a lot of clichés and regular tropes that we’ve seen in numerous horror dramas.
Sriram gives an excellent portrayal as a father who seeks to safeguard his family. Kushee Ravi fits well. As their daughters, Baby Chaitra and Baby Leisha are equally effective. Eeswari Rao is fantastic as the exorcist.
“Pindam” belongs to the technicians, however. The sound designer, music director, and cameraman all worked together to create the spooky atmosphere.
Note: The film has hard to watch sequences in the final portion.
Bottom line: “Pindam” manages to provide some genuine thrills, and scare moments. But it is the later part of the movie that misses the mark and ends up a regular horror movie.
