Rangabali review: Runs out of steam midway

What’s it about?

Shaurya (Naga Shaurya) is a young man who is deeply attached to his hometown of Rajavaram. He plans to remain there forever. But his father asks him to finish B Pharmacy at least. So, he decides to attend college in Vizag, where he meets and falls for Dr. Sahaja (Yukti Thareja).

Sahaja’s dad is against the marriage because he is from Rajavaram and the Rangabali center there. For what reason does her father disapprove of their lover?

Analysis

The Naga Shaurya starrer based on a script that lacks enough material like all of his recent efforts. He had recently tasted a number of failures, all of which had failed due to poor storytelling. Even so, he’s settled on this script, which lacks a compelling plot. The comedy is the only saving grace of the film. While the film’s jokes are fine when they run the show, “Rangabali” suffers most when it tries to do something besides be funny.

The film’s central message is okay but the way it is told is ineffective.

Comedian Satya is in top form throughout the film and almost single-handedly propels the action forward. However, there is nothing else to keep the attention of the viewers.

Even Naga Shaurya tries to crack a joke or two. His performance is okay. Yukti Thareja, a newcomer, shows promise.

The main antagonist, “Dasara” star Shine Tom Chacko, isn’t given enough depth as a character to really make an impression. Actor Goparaj Ramana, playing a father, stands out among the rest.

While his debut in Sekhar Kammula’s “Love Story” was impressive, the music he composed for the film doesn’t deserve much appreciation.

Bottom-line: “Rangabali” begins humorous but runs out of steam quickly. It’s another half-baked attempt.
