Vishnu Vinyasam Review: Sree Vishnu’s vinyasam clicks in parts

What’s the story of “Vishnu Vinyasam” all about?

Vishnu (Sree Vishnu) has been working in a college in Guntur for the past seven years, hoping to secure a permanent faculty position soon. However, two senior lecturers (Brahmaji and Praveen), who hold a grudge against him, inform the principal that his services are no longer required, leading to his termination.

At this crucial juncture, another lecturer, Manisha (Nayan Sarika), steps in and takes him under her wing as her junior for the academic year, thereby saving his job. She herself informs Vishnu about this favor. Grateful, he agrees to comply with her unusual demands: secretly buying her cigarettes, bringing alcohol bottles after college hours, and accompanying her on private drives. During one such drive, she even asks him to kiss her, leaving him stunned.

Soon, he learns that she is genuinely in love with him, and he gradually reciprocates. But matters take a serious turn when Manisha reveals the real crisis in her life. Every marriage alliance brought by her family has collapsed after a particular secret about her jathakam came to light. On top of that, her family is burdened with debts exceeding Rs 60 crores. What exactly is the secret tied to her horoscope? And how does Vishnu, a man who blindly believes in astrology, respond after discovering the truth?

Analysis

“Vishnu Vinyasam” aptly reflects both the storyline and Sree Vishnu’s on-screen persona. Over the years, he has cultivated a distinct comic identity, and much of the film banks on his body language, sarcastic one-liners, and eccentric timing to keep the proceedings lively.

Several moments do evoke genuine laughs. The first half, in particular, moves briskly, aided by Sree Vishnu’s energetic performance and the unfolding layers surrounding the heroine’s character. The interval episode adds a touch of intrigue. While not uproariously funny, the first half remains fairly engaging.

However, the narrative loses its grip in the second half. The same comic ‘vinyasam’ begins to feel repetitive. When comic style overtakes substance and the writing doesn’t offer fresh momentum, the impact diminishes. That is precisely the issue here.

Among the sequences that work well are the early interactions between Nayan Sarika and Sree Vishnu, and the “Veeri Veeri Gummadi Pandu” episode, which stands out for its humor.

Sree Vishnu once again proves his strength in comedy. He shoulders the film and is largely responsible for whatever works in it. Though a few stretches feel slightly overdone, his commitment to entertain is evident.

Nayan Sarika gets a reasonably effective role and handles it with confidence. The rest of the supporting cast leaves no impact.

Technically, the film is average. Radhan’s music is forgettable. The crisp runtime of 127 minutes works in its favor, and the sharp editing is a definite plus.

Bottom Line: “Vishnu Vinyasam” works in parts. The first half entertains thanks to Sree Vishnu’s comic timing, but the second half feels stretched.

Rating: 2.5/5
