With massive openings, Nandamuri Balakrishna’s “Veera Simha Reddy” created a storm at the box office in the United States. So, Megastar Chiranjeevi was under pressure to do the same with his latest film. And he succeeds.
“Waltair Veerayya” also had a strong start in the United States. The premiere shows earned the film $680k (Rs 5.5 Cr). This is a massive opening for a Chiranjeevi movie. His previous film, Godfather, only made $318 from premiere shows. “Waltair Veerayya” grossed double what “Godfather” did.
On the other hand, Balakrishna’s “Veera Simha Reddy,” which had a massive opening, added $71k to its kitty on Thursday. The total gross is now $788k (Rs 7 Cr). The Balayya film clearly has the upper hand.
It will be interesting to see how these two films fare in the coming days, as both have received lukewarm reviews.
