The much-hyped ‘Shaakuntalam,’ which was released in multiple languages across India, bombed like anything. On its first weekend, the film earned approximately Rs 2.20 crore (share) in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The contributions from Tamil, Hindi, and other languages were pitiful. The film grossed approximately $240k (Rs 1.96 crore) in the United States.
Overall, ‘Shaakuntalam’ was a colossal flop, earning one of the lowest grossing big-budget films ever.
On the other hand, Raghava Lawrence’s dubbed films ‘Rudhrudu’ and ‘Vidudala’ were released in theatres. While ‘Rudhrudu’ started off strong, it eventually fell apart due to poor content. ‘Vidudala’ made a good profit and received favourable reviews.
