800: Vijay Sethupathi bows down to pressure

Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi, who recently appeared in Megastar Chiranjeevi’s ‘Sye Raa’, has walked out of ‘800’, a biopic on famous Srilankan bowler Muttiah Muralitharan. He will not be playing Muralitharan’s role.

Some political groups have raised objections to Vijay Sethypathi essaying Muralitharan’s role since the cricketer is seen as a supporter of former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Tamil people see Mahinda Rajapaksha as the one who ordered the massacre of Srilankan Tamils during the civil.

In a statement, Muralitharan said he asked Vijay Sethupathi to quit the project of ‘800’ since the film would cause harm to the actor’s career. Vijay Sethupathi thanked Muralitharan and exited from it.

Muralitharan is the first bowler to take 800 wickets in Tests.

The makers will replace another actor with Vijay Sethupathi.
