Superstar Rajinikanth’s “Coolie” may have crossed the Rs 500 crore mark at the box office, but it left a deep dent in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s reputation as one of Tamil cinema’s top directors. Despite the modest commercial success, the film was widely criticized for weak writing and a lackluster second half, with many feeling that Lokesh’s creative spark has dimmed.
Before Coolie’s release, there was immense buzz about several big-ticket projects from Lokesh, including collaborations with Aamir Khan, Ram Charan, and Prabhas. Particularly, the project with Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, who also made a cameo in Coolie, had raised huge expectations.
However, the latest reports confirm that the much-publicized Lokesh-Aamir film has been shelved.
Meanwhile, Kaithi 2, another highly anticipated film starring Karthi, has been postponed indefinitely. Instead, Lokesh appears to be setting his sights on an even bigger spectacle: a mega-collaboration uniting Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan on the same screen. Kamal Haasan himself recently confirmed the project, adding that if the audience desires this legendary combination once again, they are ready to deliver.
