Actor Dileep acquitted in 2017 actress abduction case

After an eight-year trial, a Kerala court has cleared Dileep of all charges in the high-profile actress-kidnap case.

While the court acquitted Dileep, it convicted six other defendants. They were found guilty of criminal conspiracy, wrongful confinement, assault intended to outrage modesty, abduction, attempted disrobing, and gang rape.

Dileep had been accused of conspiracy and tampering with evidence. According to the verdict, the main crimes. including rape and abduction, were attributed to those six.

Immediately after the judgment, Dileep expressed gratitude to those who supported him over the years. He described the allegations against him as part of a “criminal conspiracy,” and suggested that the case had first been raised by his ex-wife, actress Manju Warrier.

The actress who had been abducted and assaulted had previously shared several interviews about the trauma she endured.
