Karthi’s Sardar 2 set for clash with Vijay Deverakonda’s Ranabaali’

Vijay Deverakonda recently announced that his period action drama “Ranabaali” will hit theaters on September 11, 2026. While it remains to be seen whether the film will retain that release date, Karthi has now locked the same festive weekend for “Sardar 2.”

The makers of “Sardar 2” have officially announced September 10, 2026, as the film’s release date, setting up the possibility of an interesting box-office clash during the Vinayaka Chaturthi holiday season.

A sequel to the 2022 hit “Sardar,” the film reunites Karthi with director P.S. Mithran. The spy-action thriller reportedly blends elements of both a sequel and a prequel. Karthi reprises dual roles, while Rajisha Vijayan, Ashika Ranganath and Malavika Mohanan play key characters. S.J. Suryah takes on the antagonist’s role.

Principal photography was completed several months ago, and the film is currently in post-production. The makers are aiming for a grand pan-Indian release across Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada markets.

The first “Sardar” performed well in Telugu states in addition to its success in Tamil Nadu, giving the sequel a solid foundation among Telugu audiences.

For now, the spotlight is on whether “Ranabaali” will stick to its announced September 11 release date or opt for a different slot. If both films arrive as scheduled, the Vinayaka Chaturthi weekend could witness a notable showdown between two popular stars.

Interestingly, Karthi and Vijay Deverakonda share a warm friendship off screen, making the potential box-office battle all the more intriguing.
