Lokesh Kanagaraj puts ‘Kaithi 2’ aside again?

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who just released his sixth film “Coolie” starring superstar Rajinikanth, has been receiving both trolling and support. While Rajinikanth’s fans are delighted that he presented their superstar in a stylish manner, film lovers are criticizing him for turning into a regular commercial filmmaker, contrary to his image as an intelligent director.

Once a filmmaker gets a taste of money and star-studded projects, it is not easy to return to the kind of strong, modestly budgeted films that launched their career. That is why Lokesh has been pushing the sequel to Kaithi (2019), the film that gave him his real break, further and further away.

Until the release of “Coolie,” he repeatedly stated that he would begin shooting “Kaithi 2” with Karthi right away and only then move on to other projects. But after the release, he has reportedly changed his mind.

One of the reasons “Coolie” generated massive hype and terrific openings was its star-studded cast, which included Nagarjuna Akkineni as the villain and cameo appearances by Upendra and Aamir Khan. Now, Lokesh is said to be planning something even bigger. He reportedly wants to bring together two of Tamil cinema’s legendary superstars, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, for his next film.

According to media reports, Kamal Haasan will produce the project under his RKFI banner. The two legends acted together in numerous films early in their careers but decided not to share screen space again after they became top stars. Lokesh has apparently convinced them, and they are ready to reunite.

Meanwhile, Karthi, who has been waiting to start “Kaithi 2,” has agreed to postpone the project after Kamal Haasan reportedly called him personally.
