Veteran actor Nagarjuna Akkineni reportedly turned down a key negative role in the Bollywood film “Dhurandhar”, even as he recently embraced a villainous character in Rajinikanth’s “Coolie”.
Casting director Mukesh Chhabra has now confirmed that the team initially approached a major South Indian star for the role of Rehman Dakait in the film, directed by Aditya Dhar. While he did not reveal the name, strong industry buzz suggests it was Nagarjuna.
According to sources, Nagarjuna was the first choice for the role. After his refusal, the makers reportedly considered a couple of Bollywood actors, but they too declined the offer.
Eventually, Akshaye Khanna was brought on board. His intense look and performance went on to become one of the highlights of “Dhurandhar”, earning wide appreciation.
Interestingly, Nagarjuna’s decision has sparked curiosity, especially since he agreed to play an antagonist in “Coolie”. The reasons behind rejecting “Dhurandhar” remain unknown, and only the actor can clarify what led to the call.
