Recently, members of a Boya community said that their caste has been offended by the film ‘Valmiki’. Since the great sage Valmiki was a Boya, using his name as the title for a film based on the life of a gangster (played by Varun Tej) is not to the members’ liking.
In this regard, they have approached the court, saying that the makers of the soon-to-be-released film should be prevented from using the title. They have filed a petition in the High Court, which has since issued notices to DGP, the Censor Board, Film Chamber, actor Varun Tej and the film’s producers.
So, is the film going to have a title change soon?
Director Harish Shankar said there will not be any change in the title. They have not offended the community by putting this title, he asserts. He asks the community to watch the film before drawing to the conclusions.
The gangster comedy features Varun Tej, Atharva Murali and new girls Krishna Manjusha and Mrinalini Ravi as the lead actors. Pooja Hegde is playing another female lead. The film will release on September 20.
