Manchu Vishnu’s ambitious project “Kannappa” hit theaters in June. While most films arrive on OTT platforms within weeks of their theatrical debut, this devotional drama remained unavailable for streaming, sparking speculation.
Rumors suggested that leading OTT players were hesitant to acquire the film due to Vishnu’s steep asking price. However, putting an end to the buzz, Prime Video has officially bagged the digital rights.
The film will premiere on the platform on September 4, 2025. “Witness the epic, spirit of sacrifice & divinity. #KANNAPPA releases digitally on Sept 4, 2025 only on Prime Video,” Vishnu confirmed on X.com.
“Kannappa” featured an ensemble of star cameos: Prabhas as Rudra, Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva, Kajal Aggarwal as Goddess Parvathi, and Mohanlal as Kitara. Despite this star power and pre-release hype, the film struggled to meet box-office expectations.
Vishnu essayed the titular role of Lord Shiva’s ardent devotee, while Preity Mukundhan made her Telugu debut as the female lead.
