Bollywood star Ranveer Singh has broken his silence on the Kantara controversy, issuing a public apology after receiving backlash for mimicking Rishab Shetty’s iconic Daiva performance. His exaggerated act, which was performed on stage in the presence of Rishab Shett, triggered criticism online, especially after he mistakenly referred to the revered Daivas as “ghosts.”
Responding to the uproar, Ranveer clarified his intentions.
“My intention was to highlight Rishab’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it takes to perform that scene the way he did, and he has my utmost admiration,” he wrote.
He further expressed regret for unintentionally hurting sentiments.
“I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition, and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”
Rishab Shetty, who won the National Award for Best Actor for Kantara, recently scored another success with the prequel Kantara: Chapter 1.
