RGV backs ‘Dhurandhar 2’ over ‘Toxic’ in big clash

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has stirred fresh debate on social media with his strong comments on the upcoming box-office clash between Aditya Dhar’s “Dhurandhar 2” and “Toxic,” starring Yash. Both films are scheduled to hit the theaters on March 19, 2026.

In a detailed post, Varma framed the clash as a battle between films that respect audience intelligence and those that rely on hero worship and spectacle-driven storytelling. He praised the earlier success of “Dhurandhar,” stating that it was made on a budget of around Rs 130 crore and reportedly went on to gross nearly Rs 1500 crore, calling it proof that content-driven cinema can achieve massive commercial success.

Without mincing words, Ram Gopal Varma argued that films like “Dhurandhar” treat the masses as intelligent viewers, whereas big-scale action entertainers such as “Toxic” underestimate them with what he described as mindless formulas. He said he hopes “Dhurandhar 2” emerges successful because such films encourage filmmakers to focus on logic, coherence, and progressive storytelling.

RGV clarified that his support is not driven by personal affection for Aditya Dhar but by what he calls his “hope for Indian cinema.” He concluded dramatically, saying he is eagerly waiting for March 19 to see whether India chooses “Dhurandhar” or “Toxic.” “NO, it is not my love for @AdityaDharFilms which made me write this, but it is my HOPE for INDIAN CINEMA. I am waiting with bated breath for MARCH 19th to know if INDIA is DHURANDHAR or TOXIC,” he wrote.

His remarks have quickly gone viral, adding more heat to what is already shaping up to be a high-voltage box-office showdown.
