Tough times ahead for Vikram Kumar

When ‘Manam’ came out, the entire South Indian film industry went gaga over the talents of director Vikram Kumar. From NTR Jr to Allu Arjun, from Suriya to Dhanush, all vied to act under his direction. Such was his craze back then. It was Suriya who immediately gave dates to Vikram Kumar after ‘Manam’. But their combination didn’t set cash registers ringing. The film ‘24’ also received mixed reviews.

Later, he directed ‘Hello’ with Akhil which tanked at the box-office. Both these movies have brought his craze down. The big stars who showed so much interest to collaborate with him have started turning down his stories. NTR and Allu Arjun both rejected Vikram Kumar’s story of ‘Gang Leader’ and he finally convinced Nani. However, ‘Gang Leader’ received very low ratings and mixed reviews from the critics proving that his films are no longer winning critical acclaim.

‘Gang Leader’ took good openings in the first weekend but it has failed to hold during the weekdays. It has to be seen its overall box-office result but the movie has put Vikram Kumar in a spot. It will be tough for him to convince the stars for his next movies.
