Every year, Upasana and her mother perform Bathukamma along with the “lovely” young girls from Balika Nilayam, an orphanage run by Upasana’s grandmother. With a symbolic gesture of spreading joy and love, the family looks at this as a way to give back to the society for everything they have. “The girls help us make our Bathukammas. This is an event we look forward to every year. Because it is occasions like these help create lifelong memories for us as well as these young girls. I have grown up with them and love seeing the joy and happiness on their faces,” she shares.
And from the looks of it, they had a lot of fun. “Had a fabulous time with the girls and family! (sic),” she wrote on social media summing up the mood of the celebrations.
Bathukamma is a floral festival celebrated by the women of Telangana and is a song and dance celebration of nine days during the Navratri.
