Vijay Deverakonda’s old controversy turns into a case

Actor Vijay Deverakonda is once again in the headlines, as an old controversy involving his remarks about tribal communities has resurfaced.

Back in late April, during the promotional event of Suriya’s film Retro, Deverakonda made comments referencing tribal communities. His remarks sparked backlash, prompting tribal groups to demand an apology. On May 3, Deverakonda issued a lengthy clarification on social media, stating: “If any part of my message was misunderstood or hurtful, I express my sincere regret. My only aim was to speak of peace, progress, and togetherness. I remain committed to using my platform to uplift and unify — never to divide.”

His clarification appeared to settle the matter, and the issue faded from public discussion. Suddenly, the controversy has been reignited.

A case has been registered against the actor under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on June 17, based on a complaint filed by Nenavath Ashok Kumar Naik, the Telangana State President of the Joint Action Committee of Tribal Communities. He alleged that Vijay Deverakonda made offensive remarks against tribal communities.

The timing of the renewed legal action raises questions. Why has the issue been revived now, months after the incident and apology?

Meanwhile, Vijay Deverakonda is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Kingdom, which is set to hit theaters soon.
