Mamitha Baiju shot to fame with “Premalu” and further strengthened her popularity among South Indian youth with “Dude.” The back-to-back successes helped her emerge as one of the most sought-after young actresses.
However, the momentum took a hit with Dhanush’s recent film “Kara.” Mamitha played a deglamorized role that had little impact on the narrative, and the film itself failed to meet expectations at the box office. Following the setback, the actress is said to be exercising greater caution in choosing her projects, prioritizing strong and meaningful roles.
According to the latest buzz, producer Dil Raju is considering Mamitha Baiju for “Yellamma,” which is being directed by Venu Yeldandi. The makers have reportedly been struggling to finalize the female lead. Sai Pallavi was initially approached for the role, while Keerthy Suresh was also said to be under consideration. Now, Mamitha’s name has entered the discussion.
The big question, however, is whether Mamitha will sign the project. “Yellamma” marks the acting debut of music director Devi Sri Prasad as a lead hero, making it an unconventional pairing. Given her current approach to script selection and career planning, it remains to be seen whether she will take on a film headlined by a first-time lead actor, despite the project carrying the backing of Dil Raju and director Venu Yeldandi.
For now, industry circles are keenly watching whether Mamitha chooses to be part of one of the most talked-about projects in development.
