YS Jagan requests PM to confer Bharat Ratna for SPB

Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking the Bharat Ratna for legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who passed away recently.

“His immense popularity and the deep impact he left on the global music industry in his 50 years of legacy can be gauged by the continuous flow of rich tributes from music aficionados all over the world,” YS Jagan Mohan Reddy mentioned in his letter.

He also stated that earlier music stalwarts like Lata Mangeshkar and Bhupen Hazarika were conferred the highest civilian award. “As a tribute to the legendary singer for his outstanding contribution in the field of music and art, I request you to confer Bharat Award upon him. This will be the highest recognition of his remarkable work which lasted for five decades and stays in our memory forever,” he said in his appeal.

SP Balasubrahmanyam died of cardio-respiratory arrest (lung disease) on September 25.
