What’s “Bhimaa“ about?
Bhimaa (Gopichand) is a Sub-Inspector employed in Mahendragiri. Bhavani and Rudra govern the area with their raucous ways and instill dread among its inhabitants. Bhimaa drives change in Mahendragiri and strengthens the rule of law. He suspects, however, that Bhavani and Rudra’s deeds are being orchestrated by a more powerful person.
Meanwhile, he gets attracted to Vidya (Malvika Sharma), a school teacher who approached him for assistance in managing a Romeo. The admiration is reciprocated and they quickly enter into a romantic relationship. Vidya is a follower of the local Ayurvedic medical practitioner Ravindra Varma (Nasser), who effectively resolves various health issues using medicinal plants.
When he encounters Ravindra Varma, the latter requests a favor from Bhimaa, which dramatically disrupts his life. Will Rama, Bhimaa’s estranged brother, come to save him?
Analysis
These days, the action scenes drive the narrative rather than the story itself. Incorporating a moderate amount of sentimentality (such as the presence of a mother, father, brother or sister) and meticulously choreographing action sequences in a grandiose fashion ensures the achievement of success. It would be beneficial if this story included a religious or spiritual component. Therefore, all heroes are trying to act in such movies. Gopichand joined the bandwagon with “Bhimaa”.
The film is directed by A Harsha, a successful Kannada filmmaker. He has told a story that is similar to numerous Telugu films from the past.
Two episodes in the film stand out: the first, which is about Parasuram Kshetram. And a pre-interval episode. These are the best parts. However, the remaining elements, including love portions, are too regular.
Gopichand plays two different roles – a police officer and a timid Brahmin youth impressively. He is at his best in the role of a cop. Nasser as the Ayurvedic doctor is impressive. Malvika Sharma plays her part neatly. Priya Bhavani Shankar lacks any scope to get marks in this film. Vennela Kishore is okay.
The film contains excellent action sequences. They are not only well-designed, but also appear impressive on screen. Swami J. Gowda’s cinematography is top-notch. Music is the weakest component.
Bottom line: “Bhimaa” is an action drama with a fantasy element, but the plot and narration are too formulaic and predictable.
