Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani…What’s it about?
Sivaji (Sriram) is an honest Panchayat Raj secretary in his hometown. He leads a quiet life with his wife Uttara (Laya), and their young son (Master Rohan).
One day, Sriram gets into an argument with police officer Vikram (Prince). Soon after, Vikram mysteriously dies inside Sriram’s house. The incident sets off a chain of trouble as a local MLA (Sarath Lohitaswa) and his men begin searching for Sriram. At the same time, the police start closing in on him.
With both the politician’s men and the police hunting him down, how does Sriram protect his family and escape the crisis? What really happened inside his house that night?
Analysis
Actor Sivaji turned producer for this project, which was made for the streaming platform ETV Win. The platform recently gained popularity with the web series “90s” and the film “Little Hearts,” and has been encouraging small concept-driven projects.
“Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani” also begins with a similar intention. However, the film suffers from predictability, formulaic writing, and amateurish direction.
The central premise inevitably reminds viewers of “Drishyam” starring Mohanlal. At the same time, the narrative tone feels somewhat similar to “Mathu Vadalara” and “Bhama Kalaapam” starring Priyamani. Unfortunately, it neither entertains like “Mathu Vadalara” nor grips like “Drishyam.”
The film attempts to blend crime with dark comedy, but the execution often slips into farce. Despite efforts from the cast including Sivaji, Laya, and young Rohan, the scenes lack the required punch and the dialogues fail to generate consistent entertainment.
Dhanraj is presented as a surprise element in the narrative, but even his twist towards the end does not land as effectively as intended. Large portions of the film test the viewer’s patience.
Sivaji and Laya share decent chemistry as a married couple. Rohan is adequate in his role. Dhanraj is serviceable, while the comedy track featuring other actors fail to evoke laughs. The technical work remains largely routine.
Bottom line: “Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani” tries to present a dark comedy thriller, but predictable writing, a sluggish screenplay, and amateurish direction make it a dull and underwhelming watch.
