The title “Megastar” has been synonymous with Chiranjeevi for decades. For many fans, especially those who grew up watching his films, he is almost always referred to as Megastar Chiranjeevi rather than simply Chiranjeevi. However, before “Megastar” became permanently attached to his name, he was popularly known as “Supreme Hero.”
In fact, the tradition of Telugu film stars adopting and changing monikers goes back several decades, dating to the era of the late N.T. Rama Rao.
Even today, leading stars such as NTR, Ram Charan, Allu Arjun, Prabhas and Mahesh Babu continue to update their screen titles as their careers evolve.
NTR was once widely known as “Young Tiger.” In recent years, however, he has embraced the title “Man of Masses,” which now accompanies most of his film promotions.
Similarly, Allu Arjun carried the “Stylish Star” tag for many years before transitioning to “Icon Star,” a title that has now become firmly associated with him.
Prabhas, who rose to fame as “Young Rebel Star,” is increasingly being projected as the India’s Biggest Superstar following the success of the “Baahubali” franchise and other pan-Indian films.
Mahesh Babu, meanwhile, was initially promoted as “Prince.” As his stardom reached new heights after “Pokiri,” the industry and fans gradually began referring to him as “Superstar Mahesh Babu.”
The latest addition to this trend is Ram Charan. Over the years, he has been known as “Mega Power Star” and, following the global success of “RRR,” briefly adopted the title “Global Star.” Recently, however, Chiranjeevi declared that Ram Charan would be known as “New Age Megastar,” stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had used the phrase while referring to him.
Whether these titles endure or evolve further, one thing remains constant: in Telugu cinema, monikers continue to be an important part of a star’s identity and brand.
