Praveen Sattaru’s biopic on former badminton champ Pullela Gopichand sees Sudheer Babu essaying the now-celebrated coach’s role. The project has come to acquire craze and respect for obvious reasons.
Firstly, Gopichand, hitherto an unsung hero, has become a revered star in the history of Indian sports post the Olympics feat of his disciple PV Sindhu. Secondly, youngsters are reading about him because he is all over the media. It’s difficult to find any in the Telugu States who hasn’t shared something or the other about Gopichand (and Sindhu) on social media.
Given these factors, the maker of ‘Chandamama Kathalu’ and ‘Guntur Talkies’ now enjoys the advantage of making a biopic on Gopichand. Only a few days ago, Sudheer Babu was playing the role of an unsung hero. Not any more. This also means that the director-hero duo now have to take care to live up to expectations.
Since Sudheer is a badminton player himself and has known Gopichand for many years as a sporting partner, things are less difficult for the director in extracting the body language. Sudheer is bringing to table certain anecdotes from Gopichand’s life to which he is privy.
