Director Shankar is reportedly working on a new project after the disappointing performances of “Indian 2” and “Game Changer”. Once regarded as one of India’s biggest filmmakers, Shankar is now finding it difficult to get top stars from Tamil, Telugu, or Bollywood cinema on board for his next venture.
The filmmaker had initially planned a pan-Indian historical drama based on a Tamil king. However, the project requires a massive budget, and producers are reportedly hesitant to invest such a huge amount in a Shankar film at this point.
As a result, Shankar is said to be reconsidering his approach. According to industry buzz, he now wants to return to his roots and make a content-driven action entertainer with a relatively modest budget and without depending on a major star.
Interestingly, Shankar began his directorial journey with “Gentleman”, starring Arjun, who was not a top-tier star at the time. The film went on to become a trendsetter and established Shankar as a filmmaker with a distinct vision.
Whether the director can recreate that magic remains to be seen.
