Astronomical ticket sales for Oopiri in USA

In sheer volume of tickets sold, Oopiri will out pace many other big grossers by a huge margin. The economics of ticket sales for Telugu movies in the US is that for any big movie release they increase the prices to $18 – $22 for the first week and then bring them down, which causes a big spike in dollar terms for the first week. A close look at the numbers for Oopiri reveals that it is attracting similar or more number of patrons in comparison with any major hit in the recent past. The ticket pricing being at the standard $12 which is the norm for any Telugu movie releasing in the US and still recording the same kind of Dollar revenue shows the amazing feat of how big a draw Oopiri has been in USA.

Cinema patrons are welcoming the initiative of not hiking the prices for this movie and enjoying the movie from the bottom of their heart without worrying about the monetary burden of going to a movie with the entire family.  Hope this  path breaking initiative opens up the way for future movies thereby ensuring that a larger section of the select audience come to the theaters and enjoy the experience of watching a movie on the large screen rather than waiting for the prices to come down weeks after the release or wait for pirated DVD or online releases.

Oopiri will be one of Nagarjuna’s highest grossing movies in terms of ticket sales and generate a good will among people. PVP cinema has taken the right step in releasing the movie at normal prices and leading the way for everyone else to follow.
