Ram Charan’s “Peddi”, which hit theaters last week, is reportedly set to get an extended version for its OTT release.
The film was released with a runtime of nearly three hours. Following its theatrical debut, the makers removed around two minutes of footage after some scenes involving Janhvi Kapoor’s character drew criticism on social media for their portrayal and excessive glamour.
Now, as the film enters its second week in cinemas, attention has shifted to its digital release. Netflix had acquired the film’s streaming rights well before its theatrical release, and “Peddi” is expected to premiere on the platform next month.
According to industry buzz, the team is considering releasing an extended cut on Netflix that includes several deleted scenes. During the editing process, director Buchi Babu reportedly trimmed a few sequences involving Ram Charan and Jagapathi Babu to keep the runtime close to three hours. A lengthy scene featuring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor discussing their wedding was also removed.
If these deleted portions are restored, the OTT version could run for nearly 3 hours and 20 minutes. It remains to be seen whether Netflix will stream the theatrical cut or the extended version, but current buzz suggests the latter is being considered.
