First things first. The corona crisis is going to affect the movie industry badly. Budgets will be slashed. A cut in remunerations is a must. Except for films or combinations that have a market pull, all other projects will readjust their estimations.
Big-budgeted films that are under planning will suffer first. Example: Rana’s proposed mythological biggie ‘Hiranya Kashyapa’. The film has long been in the planning. But will it go to the floors with an estimated budget of Rs 180 crore? Unlikely. A film in the combination of Rana and director Gunashekar with such a huge budget now seems absurd. This is not a combination that will excite distributors or distributors.
When the market was upbeat, this film was planned. But now, Gunasekhar either drastically cut the budget or wait for the better times to come. Rana, on the other hand, has put a hold on the release of his other trilingual big movie ‘Aranya’ due to the lockdown period. His ‘Virata Parvam’ is also under progress.
Gunasekhar and Rana’s ‘Hiranya Kashyapa’ is produced by Suresh Babu. Will Suresh Babu dare to invest such a big amount in the changing times?
