Extraordinary year for Tollywood in US market

2015 was turning point for Tollywood industry. The year saw huge jump of revenues for Telugu film industry both in domestic market (AP, Telangana and rest of India) and in Overseas market (mostly USA). Rajamouli’s epic drama “Baahubali” expanded our market. Even the grand success of “Srimanthudu” has further strengthened Tollywood’s business potential.

The same trend followed in year 2016 too. Especially in USA market, Tollywood has performed extraordinarily. This year we had seen two movies that grossed more than two million dollars. In total, 9 movies grossed more than one million dollars in a single year. They are – A…Aa, Nannaku Prematho, Janatha Garage, 24, Oopiri, Pelli Choopulu, Brahmotsavam, Sardaar Gabbar Singh and Dhruva.

And Trivikram’s Nithin starrer ‘A…Aa’ is the biggest blockbuster in 2016 in USA market with the gross of 2.44 million dollars. Second place goes to NTR – Sukumar’s ‘Nannaku Prematho’ that grossed $2.02 million dollars.

There are other movies that performed well too like Nani’s ‘Gentleman’ that came near to one million dollar mark. Naga Chaitanya’s ‘Premam’, Avasarala Srinivas’s ‘Jyo Achyutananda’, and Nikhil’s ‘Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada’ also brought huge profits to the USA distributors.
