Jnanpith awardee and poet Dr. C Narayana Reddy (85) passed away on Monday in Hyderabad. He breathed his last at Care Hospital while undergoing treatment. He was popularly called as CiNaRe. He wrote many super hit songs and he was one of the early great poets who brought ‘kavya gauravam’ to Telugu film lyrics. He wrote nearly 3500 songs.
Born on July 29 in 1931 in Hanumaji Pet in Karimnagar district, Dr C Narayana Reddy was awarded the prestigious Jnanpith award in 1988 for his poetic work Visvambara which was also translated in many languages. He had his primary education in Urdu language but he studied in Telugu language during post graduation. He was a professor in Telugu language too. He also served as Rajya Sabha MP.
Debuted in NTR’s ‘Gulebakavali Katha’ in 1962 with the famous song “Nannu Dochukunduvate Vannela Doarsani”, Dr C Narayana Reddy went on to write innumerous songs in hundreds of movies.
