AR Rahman, the Oscar-winning composer with global acclaim, continues to remain one of the most respected names in Indian cinema. Known for his work across Bollywood, Tamil, and international projects, Rahman has maintained a strong presence despite rising competition.
In recent years, composers like Anirudh Ravichander have dominated the commercial space, becoming the most sought-after and reportedly the highest-paid in Indian cinema.
However, Rahman has now made headlines again with a massive paycheck.
He is composing music for the ambitious two-part epic “Ramayana”, alongside Hollywood legend Hans Zimmer. According to industry buzz, Rahman is being paid a whopping Rs 30 crore for this project, making it the highest remuneration ever for an Indian music composer.
That said, this figure appears to be an exception rather than the norm.
Sources indicate that Rahman typically charges in the range of Rs 12 to 15 crore per film. For instance, his remuneration for the Telugu project “Peddi” is said to be significantly lower than what he is earning for “Ramayana”.
The scale and ambition of “Ramayana”, touted as one of India’s costliest film projects, seem to be the key reason behind this record-breaking deal.
