No one heard about Praveen Kumar Varma and K P Chowdhary the producers who bought the rights for Telugu version of Rajinikanth’s ‘Kabali’ before they went to Chennai to snatch the movie. They were in distribution business and turned producers with this movie.
They bought the movie for whopping Rs 28 cr. Luckily, the film got huge pre-release hype. So they sold to the distributors for big price and landed in profits even before the release. Since the movie received lot of national media hype, they didn’t do any promotion in Telugu. So they weren’t seen in media much.
‘Kabali’ released to bad talk. The movie after great start at ticket window started falling. Now it is declared a flop. In many areas distributors stand to lose for the Telugu version. And the producers are nowhere to be seen now. What is worse, the Telugu producers are not even seen in the credits of the movie. The film carried Kalaipuli S Thanu’s name as producer for the Telugu version too.
Similar to ‘Kabali’, Rajinikanth’s ‘Robo’ was also bought by a newcomer for the Telugu version and he did huge profits from the movie and left the movie business after that. While ‘Robo’ was a blockbuster and brought huge profits to all the distributors, ‘Kabali’ is a flop.
