‘Master’ creates a record in streaming rights?

Tamil superstar Vijay starrer ‘Master’ had its premiere on Amazon Prime on 29th Jan, 2021. The film began streaming on this OTT platform barely two weeks after its theatrical release.

The producers sold the OTT rights for Amazon for a staggering price of Rs 36 crore. However, the makers have received additional Rs 15 crore from the streaming giant as the producers had allowed to stream it in just two weeks.

Altogether, the makers of ‘Master’ have received Rs 51 crore for streaming rights after releasing the movie in theaters. This is the highest amount given to any Indian film for streaming rights.

Suriya starrer ‘Aakasham Nee Haddhu Raa’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Laxmi’ got a bigger price than Vijay’s movie but they were direct-digital release. They were not screened in theaters. Thus, Vijay has created a record with this film as far as streaming rights are concerned.
