Mythri Movie Makers, one of the leading production houses in the Telugu film industry, recently found itself in legal trouble over the unauthorized use of Ilaiyaraaja’s musical works. The production house bankrolled two Tamil films: “Good Bad Ugly” starring Ajith Kumar and “Dude” starring Pradeep Ranganathan.
Both these movies used or remixed Ilaiyaraaja’s old songs without obtaining permission from the legendary composer.
Ilaiyaraaja filed a case against the banner in the Madras High Court, which has been ongoing for some time. Mythri Movie Makers now informed the court that a settlement has been reached.
As per a joint memo submitted, the production house has agreed to pay Rs 50 lakh as part of a commercial settlement and gratitude. In return, Ilaiyaraaja will issue a public statement acknowledging the compromise. A total of five songs composed by Ilaiyaraaja were used across the two films.
