While Ram Charan’s “Peddi” grossed nearly Rs 225 crore worldwide during its extended opening weekend, the film’s performance in the Hindi market has emerged as a major disappointment.
Positioned as a pan-Indian spectacle and backed by an extensive promotional campaign across North India, “Peddi” was expected to make a stronger impact among Hindi-speaking audiences. However, the response has been underwhelming.
In its first four days, the Hindi version collected a gross of approximately Rs 14.2 crore, translating to a net collection of around Rs 11.9 crore. For a film mounted on such a massive scale and carrying pan-India ambitions, these numbers are far from impressive.
A comparison with “Devara” highlights the gap. The Jr NTR starrer collected around Rs 33 crore gross from its Hindi version in just its three-day opening weekend. Both films featured Janhvi Kapoor as the female lead and both actors – Ram Charan and Jr NTR – enjoy nationwide recognition following the success of “RRR”. Yet, “Peddi” has struggled to attract Hindi audiences.
The lack of traction suggests that the film’s sports-drama theme may not have resonated strongly in the Hindi belt. Audiences there have already embraced acclaimed sports dramas such as “Dangal”, “Sultan”, and “Chandu Champion”, making it harder for “Peddi” to stand out despite its scale and star power.
While the Telugu version continues to drive the film’s box-office success, the Hindi market remains an area where “Peddi” has clearly underperformed.
