Rs 600 Cr bet on Tollywood summer releases!

Tollywood’s one of the best summers in terms of the range of genres as well as business is here. 2017 is a special year for Tollywood film industry (TFI) because, over a span of less than 60 days, a raft of entertainers on which something like Rs. 600-700 Cr is riding.

‘Katamarayudu’ will raise the curtains for this marathon. Come March 24, the Pawan Kalyan-starrer will hit the screens and riding on the massy flavour together with Power Star’s superstardom, it will have Rs.100 Cr of business going for it.

Probably, the Ugadi market will see Sharwanand’s ‘Radha’ entering the fray with confidence.

The month of April, once again, is high on amusement and commerciality. Venkatesh starrer ‘Guru’ and Mani Ratnam directed ‘Cheliyaa’ are most likely to lock horns on the 7th of that month. A sports drama and an emotional romantic-drama, respectively, they will enrich the season. Since the latter has the backing of ace producer Dil Raju, it has very good chances of getting good number of screens too though it is a dubbed movie.

The ‘mother of all big movies’ is coming on April 28. ‘Baahubali 2‘ alone has Rs. 400 Cr (approx) riding on it this season. It has already struck mind-blowing deals in Nizam and other territories. A magnum opus par excellence, this film is a pride, from the perspective of both popularity and market potential.

Before the release of ‘Baahubali’, Sreenu Vaitla’s ‘Mister’ is expected to entertain the audience with a feel-good love story, staring from April 14. This is as yet the most important release for Mega hero Varun Tej.

In May, Allu Arjun is expected to repeat his ‘Sarrainodu’ success he had last April. ‘Duvvada Jagannadham’ could have at least Rs. 70 Cr riding on it, making it the third biggest film of the season (after ‘Baahubali-2’ and ‘Katamarayudu’). ‘DJ’ will most probably be released on May 19.

‘Kesava’ will hit the screens a week before ‘DJ’. After ‘Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada’, Nikhil Siddhartha is lucky to be getting to target the crucial Summer season.  If ‘EPC’ became a huge hit during demonetization, ‘Kesava’ has greater chances. The movie is aiming for 12th May release. Some small movies might also join the race during the summer season.

All in all, it’s a busy and big ‘vesavi selavulu’ for patrons of Telugu films.
