Shocking! Sridevi passes away

Legendary actress Sridevi, better known as ‘Atiloka Sundari’ in Telugu land, is no more. She died on Saturday night in UAE of cardiac arrest. She was 54. She went to Dubai to attend a wedding. 

Her sudden death shocked Indian movie industry and her fans worldwide. She had acted in more than 200 movies. She was the female superstar of India. Her comeback was with ‘English Vinglish’ in 2012. Her last film was ‘Mom’ (2017). Born on August 13 in 1963 in Tamilnadu, Sridevi entered into film industry as a child artiste at the age of four. She acted in South Indian movies as child actor.

Some of her popular Telugu movies as actor are NTR’s ‘Badipantulu’, ‘Bala Bharatam’, ‘Bharya Biddalu’, ‘Maa Nanna Nirdosh’ and ‘Babu’. She began her first leading role in the Tamil film K Balachander’s ‘Moondru Mudichu’. In Telugu, her first breakout film as heroine was ‘Padaherella Vayasu’ (1978). She went on to become number one heroine in Telugu and Tamil films soon.

She acted in many blockbusters late NTR, ANR, Krishna and Sobhan Babu in the late 70’s and 1980’s. She ruled the Tollywood industry with series of blockbusters likes ‘Vetagadu’, ‘Kondaveeti Simham’, ‘Premabhishekam’, ‘Sardar Paparayudu’, and ‘Bobbili Puli’. In early 1980’s she entered into Bollywood and went to become number one actress there. After acting films like ‘Burripalem Bolludu’, ‘Karthika Deepam’, ‘Aakali Rajyam’, ‘Guru Shishyulu’, ‘Trishulam’, ‘Anuraga Devata’, ‘Kanchu Kagada’ ‘Pachchani Kapuram’, and ‘Oka Radha Iddaru Krishnulu’ in 80’s, she stayed away from Tollywood few years.

However, she returned to Telugu with K Rahgavendra Rao’s ‘Aakhari Poratam’ (1989), ‘Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari’ (1990) and ‘Kshana Kshanam’.

In Bollywood, she had given many blockbusters. Her first Hindi film was ‘Solva Saawan’. ‘Tohfa’, ‘Sadma’, ‘Nagin’, ‘Mr.India’, ‘Chandini’, ‘Lamhe’, ‘Khuda Gawah’, ‘Chalbaaz’, ‘Jaanbaaz’ and ‘Judwaa’ were some of her big Bollywood hits. In Telugu, she had acted in 85 movies.
