Renowned singer P Susheela has entered into the Guinness World Records for singing the maximum number of solo, duet and chorus backed songs. P Susheela has lent her voice to five other languages apart from Telugu.
She was given a certificate by the Guinness for singing 17, 695 songs till Jan 28, 2016 in over six Indian languages. P Susheela has sung the highest number of songs in Telugu. Born and brought up in Andhra Pradesh, Pulapaka Susheela has won National award as Best Singer five times, in which three times it has been for Telugu songs. The Padma Bhushan honour was presented to her in 2008.
Born in 1935 in Vijayanagaram in a music-loving family, she debuted as singer in 1952. Susheela sang her first song – a duet with A. M. Raja – ‘Edhukku azhaithaai’ for the Tamil movie ‘Petra Thaai'(Kanna Thalli in Telugu) starring Akkineni Nageswararao and G. Varalakshmi in lead roles.
